Bryce Harper Leads Philadelphia Phillies to The World Series
The last time the Philadelphia Phillies appeared in the MLB World Series was 2009. On Sunday evening, that all changed. Led by star Bryce Harper, Philadelphia went on to beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 to win the series 4-1, and became the 2022 National League champions.
Righty Zach Wheeler was magnificent again for the Phillies going six strong innings only surrendering two runs on three hits. Wheeler also finished the game with eight strikeouts. Wheeler’s Earned Run Average now sits at 1.38 in the playoffs.
Despite Wheeler’s stellar performance, the Phillies found themselves down 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning after the Padres went on to score two runs in the top of the inning.
Bryce Harper came to Philadelphia on an enormous 13-year $330 million dollar contract.
They say big time players show up in big time moments. Down one in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two two count, the defending NL MVP Bryce Harper smoked an opposite field 382-foot homerun to give the Phillies a 4-3 lead, and a trip to the World Series. On Sunday, the big time player showed up.
Harper went on to be named NLCS MVP. He was on fire all series going 8 for 20 with two home runs, and five RBIs.
Left hand pitcher Ranger Suarez went on to save the Phillies as David Robertson was pulled after walking two batters in the top of the ninth inning.
The Phillies will kick off the World Series Friday October 28th as they face the American League champions the Houston Astros on the road for Game one.
