Relay for Life has been around for many years, raising large amounts of money every year in hope of one goal: to cure cancer. Individual’s participating in Relay for Life do so for many reasons ranging from supporting loved ones who are currently fighting cancer to honoring loved ones who have lost the battle.

This year, Bloomsburg University’s Relay for Life will be held from April 11 at 6 p.m. to April 12 at 6 a.m. in the Recreational Center for all Bloomsburg University students, cancer patients, cancer survivors, and family.

“The ultimate goal for Bloomsburg University’s Relay for Life is for the community, students, and faculty to have fun while spreading awareness about cancer. We work extremely close with the American Cancer Society to do the best we can to raise awareness and make a difference in finding a cure for cancer. This year’s theme “Wave Cancer Goodbye,” is something we are really passionate about, because cancer never takes a vacation. We raised over $50,000 last year at our relay and are well on our way to raise more than that this year,” said the publicity chair for colleges against cancer at Bloomsburg, Jennifer Comstock.

When attending the relay make sure to bring the following things: extra clothing, money, good walking shoes, and a good attitude! The gym can get hot but it also can be cold so you’ll need to make sure you have clothing with you to change into for the various temperatures of the gym. Each team has some form of fundraiser at the event. So, you’ll want to bring money for goodies that raise money for the American Cancer Society. Some of the goodies available will be buffalo chicken dip, slushies, and baked goods. Make sure you wear shoes that you’ll be comfortable walking miles in. Relay goers take turns walking at all times. Your attitude is such a huge thing at Relay. Come prepared to be good-spirited throughout the night because we’re there to have a great time while raising money!
