Congratulations are in order for Bloomsburg’s own Sean Roth and Paul Rosa. The duo took home third place in the 2nd PASSHE Business Plan Competition. The competition is designed to provide students with an opportunity to pitch original business plans. Roth and Rosa were 1 of 200 student teams featured at this year’s competition.
“It is a terrific honor; it is further validation that our idea has a future. We are lucky to have so many people supporting us, we have built an amazing team so far and I’m excited for what the future holds,” said Rosa.
The two seniors created a social networking site for sports fans to post 15 second video rants. The site allows users to interact with other posts by responding with their own videos. This site is an outlet for sports fans’ commentary and opinions.
The 2,500 dollar prize they received will be used as seed money for the pair to continue working and launching their site which they named Sploops.com. Sploops is currently in a closed beta testing. Roth and Rosa plan on working the user interface extensively after that and then running an open beta test. The two are hoping to launch live at the end of the summer.
Roth, a management major with a concentration in supply chain said that he got the idea while listening to callers on a sports’ radio station. Working with Rosa, a mass communications major, public relations track, Sploops was born.
“We were ecstatic to place third in the competition. The 2,500 dollars we won will be great for our startup costs, but the true prize we took away from the competition was the connections, insights, and encouragement we were given from so many other great entrepreneurs” Roth answered when asked about the impact of placing third in the competition.
Editor’s Note: Both Roth and Rosa are members of the BUnow team, and the whole organization could not be more proud of their accomplishments!
