Bloomsburg Huskies Football Preview

BLOOMSBURG, PA- Bloomsburg football is back in action once again. Coming off a 10-2 season, the Huskies will look to continue their run of success in the PSAC.
Their success will likely depend on the production of star running back Franklyn Quiteh, who was recently ranked the top player in Division 2 by D2Football.com. Quiteh is coming off a season in which he rushed for 2,121 yards, scored 24 touchdowns and was named a Harlon Hill finalist for the second consecutive season.
Another big story will be the handling of the team by first year head coach Paul Darragh. With former head coach Danny Hale retired, Darragh will be given the task of leading the Huskies to another NCAA Championship berth. Darragh has been Bloomsburg’s defensive coordinator for the last 16 years, allowing him to make the transition easily into the head coaching spot.
Other players who will need to step up and contribute this season include redshirt sophomore quarterback Tim Kelly. Kelly will need to show he can improve his 51.1% completion rate from last year, and that he is willing to take control of a game in the event that the Huskies cannot get their running game going. Other key players for the Huskies will be defensive end Larry Webster and offensive linemen Brian Clarke, who were ranked ninth and 11th respectively in the Division 2 player countdown.
One of the biggest games on Bloomsburg’s schedule will be the Halloween matchup against Shippensburg University. The Raiders, who knocked off the Huskies 58-20 in the NCAA Championships last year, will come to Bloomsburg on Thursday, October 31st at 8:00 p.m.
The Huskies will open up their season with a home game against Stonehill on Saturday, September 7th at Danny Hale Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
