Bloomsburg P.A. – A new season dawned on the Bloomsburg Huskies football team Saturday afternoon, and they did not disappoint. As a team, they compiled 642 yards of offense in a 41-13 rout of the Skyhawks of Stonehill University. Senior Franklyn Quiteh rushed 21 times for a total of 182 yards and three touchdowns, while Quarterback Tim Kelly completed 10 out of 17 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. This victory marked the first win for new head coach Paul Darragh.
Additional players carrying the offensive load for Bloomsburg were redshirt sophomore Dai’Shon Munger, who had 21 carries, rushing for a career-high 135 yards. Also, wide receiver Glen Hutton Jr. caught five passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to make big plays on the field.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Andrew Harris led the Huskies with eight total tackles. Linebacker Justin Shirk chipped in with six tackles of his own, and Larry Webster recorded a nine yard sack.
In the kicking game, senior Dan Fisher recorded field goals of 25 and 47 yards.
The biggest football news of the day revolved around Quiteh, who is now 180 rushing yards away from the Bloomsburg and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record of 5,689 yards, held by former Bloomsburg running back Jamar Brittingham. Quiteh currently stands at 5,510 yards for his career.
The Huskies next game will be Saturday, September 14th on the road at Edinboro. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
