Bloomsburg Club Ice Hockey

For about five months now, the Bloomsburg Ice Hockey team has been playing hard and working harder as they try to make a name for themselves at this University. The team is in two leagues, consisting of a men’s league, and a club league where they compete against other schools. The Huskies (2-3), are in first place in the men’s league.
In club league competition, the Huskies suffered their third loss of the year against Penn State Berks this past Sunday. Penn State is currently in second place in the league standings, as the Huskies are hot on their heels in third place.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Berks jumped out to an early 1- 0 lead as the Lions look to set the pace for the rest of the game. Throughout the remainder of the game, both teams played at a high level of competition. However, Bloomsburg had difficulties controlling and settling down the puck dropping a 5-1 decision to the Nittany Lions.
Without freshman goalie Matt Markert, this game would have been out of reach for Bloomsburg. Markert made some key as he tried keeping this game as close as possible. Matt Neilson scored the lone goal for the Huskies off a spectacular pass by Bill O’Connor.
Bloomsburg’s next club game will be Saturday, January 31 at Pittston ice rink at 3 p.m.
The Huskies are hoping for some more fan support at their next upcoming games. The season is rapidly coming to an end, and the Huskies can always use more players on the team. There are five club league games and six men’s league games remaining this year. After those games, playoffs will begin in mid February.
