PatrioticUSAThis Saturday, April 16, is Bloomsburg’s annual Block Party. While one can certainly attend Block Party and have fun while being safe, the event has a tendency to get out of hand. Block Party may not be everyone’s scene and that’s totally okay. Your weekend doesn’t have to be a bust because you don’t want to get busted (or watch others do so). Block Party is not a University event, but Springfest is which is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life, CLE, CGA, and a few other BU organizations. This year will be the event’s sixth year and the theme is Patriotic U.S.A. The event includes many events throughout the weekend that provide students with a safe and fun alternative to the all-day drinking fest downtown. Here’s a list of everything you can do this weekend on campus that doesn’t involve the town chaos:

Friday, April 15:

Freedom Carnival

This will take place on Friday, April 15 on the Lycoming Lawn starting at 6 p.m. There will be mocktails, inflatable skeeball, cotton candy, an ice cream bar, and more all for free (a college student’s favorite word).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The movie will play in the Scranton Commons’ Amphitheatre at 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

Walking tacos

Also on Friday, there will be a late night walking taco cart on the Kehr Union Patio from 11 p.m.-1 a.m. The late night snack will also be free (who can refuse a free late night walking taco?)

Saturday, April 16:

Springfest

The all-day event is held at the Nelson Field House and starts at 10 a.m. with activities, free food, and fun until 6 p.m. Everyone who attends will get a free t-shirt as well as free food all day long (I’m sensing a “free” pattern for the weekend). Some of the events you can look forward to are:

  • Rockwall and Zipline
  • Bubble Soccer
  • Kan Jam
  • Cash Cab
  • Pet Therapy
  • Rita’s Italian Ice
  • Volleyball
  • Tie Dye
  • Zumba

These are just a few of the many activities Springfest will include. You can check out a more detailed list at http://reslife.bloomu.edu/springfest.

No matter what you decide to do this weekend, have fun and be safe!
