Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s “Hotline Bling” Performance and New Romance

On Oct. 27 during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, we discovered that country singer Blake Shelton does not know Drake’s music very well.

During the episode, Fallon had the coaches of The Voice, Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, and Adam Levine, play “Spin the Microphone.” This take on the classic game “Spin the Bottle,” had the players spin a microphone, choosing a player to perform a song which was enclosed in an envelope. It was pretty clear that Shelton was not going to be a fan of the game because of his comment to Fallon, “This is actually the stupidest game,” when Fallon was done explaining the rules.

The game started with solo performances, kicking off with Levine having to perform Britney Spears’s “Oops! I Did It Again.” Levine made it obvious he did not want to perform the song, though the crowd seemed pleased once he did. He was followed by Shelton having to perform “YMCA.” At least Shelton knew the words to that song.

When a buzzer of what Shelton described as an “erection” sounded, it was time for the duets to begin. Here’s when things got interesting. Fallon and Williams performed “It Takes Two” with Fallon getting really into it. Then, it was time for the moment that everyone is talking about: Stefani and Shelton’s “Hotline Bling” duet.

Stefani was more than ready to have a fun performance, while Shelton was dreading it. As Stefani performed the song, Shelton would chime in with the occasional “bling,” which seemed to be the only word he knew. Stefani ended the song with “Cowboy!”—her nickname for Shelton. All of the entertainers shared a laugh at Shelton’s performance while Stefani gave him a hug.

Shelton and Stefani have been the center of romance rumors recently. The two allegedly spend a lot of time together and were both recently divorced in the summertime—Shelton from his four-year wife, Miranda Lambert and Stefani from her 13-year husband, Gavin Rossdale.

shelton stefaniE! News has reported that this past Halloween weekend, the two were seen sharing public displays of affection. Stefani and Shelton were spotted at Levine and Maroon 5’s Halloween party with Shelton having his hands on Stefani’s shoulders, holding her close, and eventually moving his hands to her waist and then backside.

It was also reported that they were both spotted at George Clooney’s party and then Jared Leto’s, though they took separate cars. No PDA was observed at Clooney’s party, but a source had told E! News that Stefani and Shelton were holding hands at Leto’s party and left together. It looks like Shelton’s poor performance of “Hotline Bling” didn’t turn off Stefani.

E! News was able to have a source who works alongside the rumored couple on The Voice comment on the situation:

“They are definitely flirty on the set and you can see they have fun together. There is something going on between them and they have spent time together off set. They don’t want to label anything or define it, they just really like each other and happen to be going through similar things in their lives. Gwen has spent time at Blake’s house in the Hollywood Hills recently. They want it to stay under the radar and not make it a big public thing because who knows what will happen.”

Though the two had previously denied being a couple, Shelton’s representative confirmed that they are dating, according to an article released by E! News yesterday.
