Billy Crystal Hosts Oscars for Ninth Time
It was recently announced that comedy legend, Billy Crystal will take over hosting the Oscars this year. Crystal is taking over the position for Eddie Murphy who resigned after the producer of his current movie Tower Heist, Brett Ratner made a very controversial gay slur.
Ratner made a public apology, however the gesture didn’t seem to calm the storm. He decided to step down as producer.
Before the drama occurred, Eddie Murphy was coaxed by Ratner to be the host. Since the recent events have created such a stir, Murphy decided to follow in the producer’s footsteps and exit as well. After Murphy stepped down, there was much deliberation as to who would fill the vacancy. There was even a petition floating around on Facebook that the Muppets should host the Oscars. Finally, The Academy thought it best to bring back one of the most successful hosts, Billy Crystal. This will be Crystal’s ninth hosting stint for The Academy Awards. Showing a glimpse of the comedy in store for the night, he announced his gig via twitter saying, “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.”
The award ceremony will take place on Feb. 26, 2012.
