Fans rejoice! We’ve all heard the rumors of “American Horror Story” season four: carnival, freak show, circus. Now the idea has been confirmed!
Co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the title on March 24 to his 624,000 Twitter followers, after others working on the show discussed the theme publicly last month.
Murphy also revealed more details about the show in an Entertainment Weekly exclusive on March 24.
”Freak Show finds Jessica Lange playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S. Her group of ‘unusuals’? Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy all play performers whom Lange’s character has rescued; Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts are also in talks to return.”
The exclusive revealing also announced the show will be set in Jupiter, Fl. in the 1950s, further confirming the details fans have speculated and Murphy revealed previously.

During a podcast of “Nerdist Writers Panel” recorded Feb. 16, AHS writer Douglas Petrie, acknowledged the “carnival” theme to be set in stone for season four, according to Today Entertainment.
Rumors have been circulating for months on the new theme of season four, however the carnival idea in particular sparked internet gossip, leading to fan posters and fan-made plot lines.
Murphy, previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that season four would take place in the 1950s saying, “If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent, so I’m very excited!”
For those not familiar with the show, “American Horror Story” features one unique story for each season. The past three seasons were a family buying a haunted house, a mental institution in 1964, and most recently a modern-day witch coven of New Orleans.
With 13 episodes in season four, “Freak Show” will be Jessica Lange’s last season with AHS, disheartening fans since she has become a prominent actress in the series. We know her character in “Freak Show” is desperate to keep her carnival afloat, but will she and the rest of AHS push the boundaries of the creepy and prime-time horror once again?
“American Horror Story: Freak Show” will commence in Oct. on FX.
