In today’s social media world, it’s hard to keep up with all of the new networking web-sites. Even the ones we use on a daily basis contain features many may not even know about. You have read about facebook, twitter, tumblr, google plus and now to end the series we are introducing a new up and coming site.
Pinterest is a website designed to help people organize and maintain their interests. It is an online pin board that allows you to arrange and share things you enjoy. Everyone’s profile page contains boards with categories they pick. You then search whatever you desire and when you come across something you like you “repin” it to your page which allows you to easily access it whenever you like. Your board categories can range from recipes, clothes, sports and more.
The fun part about pinterest is it has features from facebook and twitter that allows you to stay more connected. You can follow your friends which allows you to check out their profile pages to see what they have on their boards and maybe repin a couple of their interests. Another feature of this site is that you can mention those you follow when repining. It helps to stay in contact and share photos, crafts, and ideas with the people you know.
It allows you to have all your favorite things in on neat easy to find place. By trolling the site you effortlessly find inspiration, innovative and unique ideas for all your interests. It is easy to spend hours on the site wandering from profile to profile collecting quotes, pictures, party ideas, Halloween costumes and more to add to your page. The list of items you can search is endless, as well as your findings.
One of the most unique parts about Pinterest is that it is an invite only website. Once invited you sign up through Facebook or twitter to create a page. Though the site is still semi private it has gained much attention and traffic. Pinterest cofounder Ben Silbermann says that the company is setting out to “connect people all over the world through common interest”, and notes that people often use their pinboards to show off things that interest them offline, in other words, it’s sort of like an online bridge between the web and the real world.”
With all the media sites out there, pinterest is a site that has been kept simple and easy to use. In the words of its mission statement pinterest was designed to be a place where you can post collections of things you love, and “follow” collections created by people with great taste.
