2017 Collegiate Media Summit

For the second time, Bloomsburg University’s Department of Mass Communications and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) is hosting the Collegiate Media Summit (CMS). The summit is taking place on Nov. 4 and 5 in McCormick Center for Human Services and the Kehr Union Building. The CMS is open to students who attend PASSHE schools, Pennsylvania schools, and schools from neighboring states.
The Collegiate Media Summit was established in 2012 with the purpose of gathering students involved in campus media. It features speakers and workshops from media professionals, known both statewide and nationally. CMS is a great chance for students to learn about their prospective field and to network with professionals.
This year’s theme will be focusing on uncertainty, change, and opportunity. “Since the rise of technology, media has been in a constant flux,” says Dr. Frohlich, Emergent Media Professor. “This constant change makes it difficult for students to know how to best prepare for their careers. The Media Summit offers students the opportunity to learn from real professionals about where the industry is at now and where it is going.” Those professionals include:
Jim Brady, CEO of Spirited Media
Andy Mehalshik, Investigative reporter, WBRE-TV
Joe Fisher (Bloomsburg University ’13), WAVY-TV
Kristen Rinaldi (Bloomsburg University ’15), Managing Editor, Lehigh Valley Instyle Magazine
Andrew Seaman, ethics committee chairperson, Society for Professional Journalists
Dave Marra (Bloomsburg University ’91), senior systems engineer, Apple
Jimmy May, photojournalist, Press Enterprise newspaper
Daniel Kline, Motley Fool
Nadia Deana, YARNitopia
“I think it’s important for students to attend the media summit because in class you learn skills, however, it is difficult for students to know how to apply these skills,” says Dr. Frohlich. “By attending the Media Summit, students will be able to get many different perspectives on what it takes in order to be successful in the media industry.”
By registering for the CMS before Sept. 30, you will receive the early bird price of $30. Individuals or groups can register at: https://secure.touchnet.com/C20442_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=13
