After Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, posted a picture on his Instagram with his former co-stars, The photo includes Will Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Daphne Maxwell Reid and Joseph Marcell, many fans speculated that the popular hit 90’s show was re-airing.
Ribeiro wrote the caption under the picture, “Always amazing to spend an afternoon with my Fresh Prince family. Wishing that James Avery was still with us to make this complete.”
Avery, who played Uncle Phil, sadly passed away on New Year’s Day in 2014. In 2014, Ribeiro stated in an interview that the cast would be unlikely to reboot the hit show because they would like protect Avery’s legacy.
However, since this picture circulated, many fans have been hoping that the cast might reconsider bringing the show back air. It’s been 21 years since this sitcom left our TV screens.
When asked about the likelihood of a reboot last year during an interview with E! News, Smith stated, “I don’t think ever, like pretty close to when hell freezes over. Like we’re going to leave that one alone.” Smith put the rumors to rest that the cast will reunite to bring back the sitcom.
Some fans, along with some of the cast members, believe that if the show did come back it wouldn’t work. The show wouldn’t feel complete without Avery, so the chances of the former cast members coming back to re-launch the show is highly unlikely.
Whether there is or isn’t a re-launch of the hit show in the future, it’s always good to see classic TV reunions; fans live to see if former co-stars still get along as well as the Bel Air-bunch do.
