The awards may come down to two super divas: Beyoncé and Adele.  Beyoncé has snagged nine nominations including best artist in four genre categories. Beyoncé has also been nominated 62 times in her career, more than any other female artist. If she wins eight awards this year, she will surpass Alison Krauss as the most-honored woman in Grammy history. Adele was nominated five times with three in the same top categories as Beyoncé. “Lemonade” and “25” are both nominated for album of the year, with “Formation” battling against “Hello.”

Other major contenders are Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West, both with eight nominations, and Chance the Rapper, climbing the charts with seven nominations in five categories. David Bowie, who passed away in January after releasing “Black Star” is up for four nominations; having only one Grammy and a lifetime achievement award.

The Chainsmokers, a D.J. duo, are up for best new artist and two other awards. They took to Twitter after finding out their nominations:

There has been a lot of talk on the snubs and surprises this year. Beyonce has a nomination in the rock category, the “Stranger Things” soundtrack has two nominations in one category, and unlike the Oscars, the categories are diverse and the nomination leaders are all people of color.

Who will win the battle of Beyoncé vs. Adele? Will another artist rise to the top? Will Kanye make his opinion be known? Critics and listeners will eagerly be waiting for the Grammys hosted by James Corden on Feb. 12, 2017.
