Jazz vibraphonist Stefon Harris with his band Blackout will close the 25th Season of Celebrity Artist Series April 29 at 7:30 in Mitrani Hall, Haas Center for the Arts, Bloomsburg University.

Heralded as “one of the most important young artists in jazz” by the Los Angeles Times, Harris is a three-time Grammy nominee, six-time Best Mallet player by the Jazz Journalist Association and recipient of the Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award.

His band Blackout features Casey Benjamin on alto sax and vocoder; Marc Carey, keys; Ben Williams, bass and Terreon Gully, Drums. Their latest album “Urbanus” was nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. Amazon.com described it as a “spectacular piece of work sparkling with optimism, ingenuity and emotional immediacy.” People Magazine called it “brilliant.”

Harris tours world-wide with the San Francisco Jazz Collective, as well as Blackout, and teaches at New York University. He has been Artist in Residence at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln), San Francisco Performances, the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum (Boston), and the Thelonious Monk Institute for Jazz Studies (Loyola University, New Orleans).

Harris’ visit to Bloomsburg University coincides with the National Association for Music Education’s designation of April as Jazz Appreciation Month and Bloomsburg University’s Department of Music
